RETHINKING RETURNS FROM THE EU: SUSTAINABLE RETURNS AND COOPERATION WITH COUNTRIES OF ORIGIN

Hotel Sheraton, Bratislava, Slovakia, 6 - 7 July 2016

The European Migration Network (EMN) conference will seek to discuss current state of play, good practice and lessons learnt in return and reintegration of migrants outside the EEA for further use by the EU and its Member States. It will put European return policy and measures into the broader context of present migration trends and realities as well as of situation in the countries of return.

As the Slovak Presidency of the Council of the EU will follow up on the Netherlands's endeavours and results achieved in the return agenda, the conference to be held in the wake of the Presidency will contribtue to bridging this process. The event thus targets mainly policy - makers and practitioners from all sectors who deal with reutrn and reintegration agenda.

ABOUT CONFERENCE

The EMN Conference is a high-level event which is organised by the EMN National Contact Point in connection with its Member State's Presidency of the Council in the EU

It serves to promote cooperation and networking by engaging with policy-makers and practitioners at EU and national level.

PROGRAMME

Topics discussed were related, among others, to practical cooperation in achieving sustainable return and reintegration, cooperation between EU Member States and countries of return, and brought also the perspectives from third countries.

SPEAKERS

The participants of the conference have had the chance to meet experts from the European Commission, EU agencies, international organisations like ECRE, IOM and UNHCR as well as from renowned universities and other institutions.

ORGANISATION OF THE EMN CONFERENCE 2016

The conference was organised within the framework of the European Migration Network (EMN) under the first Slovak Presidency of the Council of the EU (www.eu2016.sk). The event was hosted by IOM Bratislava as the coordinator of EMN activities in Slovakia in cooperation with the Ministry of Interior of the Slovak Republic and the European Commission (DG Migration and Home Affairs).

EUROPEAN MIGRATION NETWORK

The EMN provides up-to-date, objective, reliable and comparable information on migration and international protection to the EU and its Member States to support policymaking. The EMN acitvities are focused on third-country nationals.

The network is composed of National Contact Points for all EU Member States and Norway as well as the European Commission. Coordinator of the EMN National Contact Point for the Slovak Republic is the International Organization for Migration (IOM), other members are the Ministry of Interior of the Slovak Republic, Ministry of Labour, Social Affairs and Family of the Slovak Republic and Statistical Office of the Slovak Republic.
